OUR DISNEY CRUISE GUIDES
Disney Cruise Ships
Disney Magic
The first of Disney Cruise Lines ships, Disney Magic made her debut in 1998 and took her maiden voyage out of Cape Canaveral. Since then she’s sailed all over the world, with current itineraries taking her around the Caribbean and Bahamas, before she makes for cruises out of San Diego and then New Orleans later on next year.
The Disney Magic and her sister ship, the Disney Wonder are considered small compared to the newer Disney Cruise Line ships and they are both part of the “Magic Class”. The ship has 20 bright yellow lifeboats which, along with the black, red, and white colors of the ship itself, match the colors of Mickey Mouse. This change from the standard safety orange was with special permission. Disney Magic's "godmother" is Patricia Disney, former wife of Walt Disney's nephew, Roy E. Disney.
Disney Wonder
The sister ship to Disney Magic, is the Disney Wonder. She sailed on her maiden voyage in
1999 just a year after the debut of the Disney Magic. These days she mainly sails a lot further afield than Cape Canaveral with itineraries from Vancouver to Alaska, Hawaii and then she’ll be heading to Australia for the first time later on in 2023.
As she was built at the same time as the Disney Magic, she is of a very similar size and design with a few key differences. While the Disney Magic has Goofy on the stern, the Disney Dream has Donald. And inside the atrium of the Disney Magic you’ll find Mickey, but on the Wonder it’s Ariel. The ship's godmother was Disney character Tinkerbell (who only spoke with bell sounds), and Mickey Mouse gave the ship's blessing in English.
Disney Dream
Setting sail in 2010, the Disney Dream was the first in the “Dream class” of ships. The Dream
and her sister, the Fantasy are 40% larger than the Magic and Wonder offering more
spacious staterooms along with, more dining and entertainment. The Disney Dream is the
ship currently making port in Europe including the UK during summer 2023 and 2024.
During the winter she’ll be sailing out of New York and Fort Lauderdale.
While she is of the same iconic colouring as the first two Disney Cruise Line ships, she just
looks much more substantial and towering. One of the most popular features is the water
roller coaster at sea – the Aqua Duck is 250 yards of transparent tubing that sends guests
soaring over the top decks and at one point – over the ocean! Disney Dream was christened
on January 19, 2011, by Jennifer Hudson, who began her career as an entertainer on Disney
Wonder. What a magical full-circle moment.
Disney Fantasy
Following the Disney Dream was her sister, the Disney Fantasy in 2012. Structurally she is almost identical to Disney Dream with only a few differences mainly in interior design. On the stern of the Disney Dream you will find Mickey Mouse, with Donald Duck in the atrium on the Disney Fantasy Dumbo graces the stern and Minnie Mouse in the atrium. Since her maiden voyage via New York, Disney Fantasy has been based at Disney Cruise Line's terminal at Port Canaveral, Florida and cruises to the Caribbean.
The "godmother" of the ship is Mariah Carey and a ceremony was held on the ship featuring performances in the Walt Disney Theatre. Neil Patrick Harris hosted and comedian Jerry Seinfeld performed during the show!
Disney Wish
Finally, Disney’s newest ship, the Disney Wish made her maiden voyage in July 2022. She’s the first in the “Wish class” which will consist of three sisters, the Wish, the Treasure and one unnamed ship. She is currently the largest ship in the fleet. While all of the Disney Cruise Line ships are truly spectacular and make for amazing vacations, the Disney Wish is truly mind-blowing offering several restaurants, immersive spaces and experiences themed to Walt Disney Pictures, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and Pixar characters, plus the AquaMouse, the world's first Disney attraction at sea.
All past, present, and future Make-A-Wish children were announced to be the godchildren of the ship. The stern of the Disney Wish features Rapunzel and in the atrium you’ll find Cinderella.
Disney Treasure
Setting sail in 2024.
